Dear Mr. Nelson,
This letter is in response to your email which I received on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 requesting information relative to the June 27, 2004 GRVNC election. As I mentioned to you in an email dated June 13, 2004, the new board held its first meeting on June 12, 2004 and vested in me the responsibility of responding to any request by DONE for information regarding the election. To that end, please find the following responses and supporting documentation that you requested:
1. The final 2004 GRVNC Election Procedures used for the June 27, 2004 election are the ones found at www.grvnc.org.
2. Minutes reflecting the GRVNC Board’s adoption of the final 2004 GRVNC Election Procedures used for the June 27, 2004 election are attached as Exhibit A.
3. Minutes reflecting the GRVNC Board’s approval of the budget for the June 27, 2004 election are attached as Exhibit B. There has not yet been any Board action taken on the request for compensation for the Independent Elections Administrator’s services relative to the June 27, 2004 election.
4. All written challenges that I am aware of that are in the possession of individual board members or the Independent Elections Administrator are attached as Exhibit C.
5. A final list of candidates is attached as Exhibit D. I am not aware of any individuals who voluntarily withdrew their candidacy. It was reported to me that Bonnie Cheeseman, candidate for District 2, submitted her resignation from the Board on Friday, June 25th. However, because the official candidate list was certified by then-Elections Chair Paul Ryan on June 22, 2004 and because Bonnie did not request that her name be removed from the ballot, her name was included on the June 27, 2004 election ballot.
6. I am not quite sure what the scope is of the following request “a written description of issues involving use of the facilities that hosted the election.” I assume that you are referring to the parking lot issue. I asked Sheila Bernard to respond to that issue for you, as she was involved in communications with the school and LAUSD representatives related thereto. That response is attached as Exhibit E. I have also included a couple of other emails from the Independent Elections Administrator regarding the use of the school the day of the elections. These emails are attached as Exhibit F. Finally, I have also included the Independent Elections Administrator’s report on the vote count as Exhibit G, just in case you have not yet received it.
Thank you for your assistance and involvement with GRVNC. Please let me know if there is any further information that you wish me to provide. I am reachable at work (310) 581-1180 or by email at venskus@lawsv.com.
Sincerely,
Sabrina Venskus
