Venice Pumping Plant Dual Force Main Sewer
http://eng.lacity.org/projects/vpp/
The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works has initiated an environmental review process for the proposed Venice Pumping Plant Dual Force Main project. The project includes a proposal to construct and install a new force main sewer extending from the Venice Pumping Plant at 140 Hurricane Avenue in Venice, to the North Outfall Sewer in Vista del Mar near Waterview Street in Playa Del Rey.
A New Force Main Is Needed Because:
* During severe wet weather, peak flows to the Venice Pumping Plant have exceeded the capacity of the existing force main, which carries wastewater away from the plant.
* Currently, all of the wastewater from the Venice Pumping Plant is carried in one sewer. As a result, that sewer cannot be shut down for maintenance.
A New Force Main, In Conjunction With The Existing Main, Will:
* Expand capacity to ensure the continuous, safe flow during projected wet weather
* Help prevent sewer spillage onto city streets and adjacent surface waters
* Allow for much needed maintenance, rehabilitation and cleaning of the existing force main during dry weather
Proposed Alignment Alternatives
As a result of numerous technical studies, four proposed alignment alternatives are under consideration and will be evaluated in an Environmental Impact Report (EIR).

Venice Gets New Pipes

Unglamorous? Among the projects currently proposed for Venice, a new main sewer connecting the Venice Pumping Plant (VPP) at 140 Hurricane Avenue to the Hyperion Treatment Plant in Playa Del Rey is as unglamorous as it gets. But the Los Angeles Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold an official public hearing Thursday, February 23, on the draft environmental impact report issued for the project.
